The Internet Filter and why it’ll be useless in less than 200 words

Here’s my reason(s) as to why the Australian Government’s plan to filter out the internet will fail.

There’s two ways to look at it: either it’s for making the internet child safe, or it’s to mandatorily stop people from accessing the material.

The former will be false, because there’ll still be pornography available and shit to the kids, because it won’t be RC, and that lulls parents into a false sense of security. Really, a PC side filter, or even a parent monitoring the internet, is the best way to go about that.

The latter is also false because the people who don’t go looking for that stuff will pretty much NEVER stumble across it, and if they do, they’ll quickly click away before anything bad happens (and they can employ a filter if they’re worried). And the people who do go looking for that stuff will still be able to access it.

So, in either case, the filter will be USELESS, and that’s what Stephen Conroy can’t get his fucking fat head around.

Thoughts?

Yes, it is completely useless. And a waste of tax payer’s money. But does it really matter? People will begin to realise how useless it was and the government will call it off. Problem solved.
There’s also the offchance that it’ll be useful. eg. stopping pedos like Niv

Umm… I’ve heard about this filter. Personally I think I should be able to access what I want. So yeh… What exactly are they blocking?

People already know how useless it will be, and the Government is still going ahead with it. Problem not solved.
